As I have mentioned before, going to a mattress store can be a confusing process that leads many people to buy the wrong mattress for them. It is therefore very critical to know exactly what you are looking for before you ever step into a store. Mattress salespeople don’t always have your best interests in mind when they are helping you find a mattress. The best way to combat that is to know exactly what you are looking for beforehand. Here is a list of things you should know before you ever step into a mattress store. I would also recommend considering buying online if you want to save a lot of money.
This seems obvious, but you might not be totally sure of what size is going to be the best for you. You need to consider things like how much space you like to have in your bed, whether you will be sleeping with a partner, how big your room is and how much space you want for other furniture in the bedroom, etc.
The most comfortable mattresses are soft, but soft mattresses tend to provide the least amount of support. You need to figure out what side of the spectrum would be best for you. Softer mattresses also tend to sag after a while. Ideally, you would be able to find a mattress that feels really comfortable but is also very supportive. These mattresses do exist, but they can be hard to find if you don’t do enough research.
You should have a set price range in your head before you step into a store. You should keep in mind a couple of things. First, mattress stores are notorious for having lots of sales. Keep an eye out for the next mattress sale and take advantage of it so you can save that extra money. Secondly, if you buy a mattress online, you can save a lot of money. Companies that sell online save on the costs of running a store, and they tend to pass those savings on to the customer. You can get a great mattress up to 50% off what you would get at a retail store.
Pillowtop vs. Non-Pillow Top
The pillowtop is a pillar of luxury mattresses. If there is any way you can get a mattress with a pillow top, I would highly recommend that you do. They make the mattresses that much more comfortable and they decrease the tension and pressure on your back, neck, and shoulders.
Memory Foam vs. Non-Memory Foam
Memory foam mattress are all the craze these days, but there are a lot of complaints about them. Complaints such as odor, getting overheated, etc. are pretty common to hear from memory foam mattress owners. Do your research to decide whether you really want a memory foam mattress.
Read Reviews of Different Brands
Lastly, make sure you read a lot of the reviews online of the different brands you are looking at. There are a ton of sources out there for you to read, you just need to find them. Be careful as I would estimate that one in three reviews is probably written by somebody affiliated with the company being reviewed.
